I found this story very interesting!

Apocalypse Now isn’t the most appropriate Memorial Day film, but now I’m going to have to watch it today.

I’m not sure there is an appropriate movie, most of them play up being heroes and running around with guns, oh we saved the day, war is fucked up, full of corruption, and in the end a bunch of innocent people get killed. The only vets that say they enjoyed combat are nuts.

It’s not about about American soldiers, but Paths of Glory addresses a lot of those issues. It’s based on a true story about a group of French soldiers who courtmartialed and executed in order for their generals to save face during WWI. The soldiers were later exonerated. The film was banned in France for quite a while. Along those same lines, Apocalypse Now is a fairly appropriate Memorial Day film.
War isn’t hotdogs and hamburgers. We probably be a much better placebif more people realized that.
